STAR is a New York State tax relief program that lowers your school taxes. If your income is less than $500,000 you're probably entitled to the benefit

To be eligible, you must own and live at your primary residence.  There are two levels of benefits- Basic STAR and Enhanced STAR.

BASIC STAR- Total income must be $500,000 or less, which is the combined income of, all owners who live in the home and any owners spouse who lives in the home.

ENHANCED STAR- All owners must be 65 or older, except for spouses or siblings, and total income must be $79,050 or less(this limit may vary year to year, contact Assessor's office for the present limit) This is the combined income of all owners and any owner's spouse who lives in the home.

You must file with the Assessor's office. STAR applications are available from your Assessor's office or on the NYS Dept of Finance ORPTS website, www.tax.ny.gov

You must file an application with the Assessor's office.  You must show that the household income was no greater than $79,050 (limit may vary from year to year).  A copy of your income tax return, including spouses and any other owner's living on the property has to include their income tax return (Contact Assessor's office for income year required).  Also a copy of your license or birth certificate is required for proof of age.

No. STAR applies only to school district taxes.  It doesn't apply to other property taxes such as Town or County taxes.

The deadline is always March 1st of every year.

Yes.  There is a War Vets Exemption, a Disability Exemption and a Partial Tax Low Income Exemption. Please contact your Assessor's office for more information and the eligibility requirements for these exemptions

Town ordinance requires an inspection before selling a home.  Please notify the Water Office (716) 754-8213 ext. 235 or 236 when moving or selling so a final reading can take place.

You can call and have us respond to your residence, place of incident or any other place in the Town/Village of Lewiston. You can also come and file a report right at our office

1) To receive an already file report you can call or stop in the LPD office to pick up or have mailed. 
2) There is a $10 fee for police reports
3) Routine police reports are ready within three days. More in depth cases may take longer.

Water bills are sent every 2 months. February, April, June, August, October, December.

Water bills are due penalty free by the 21st of the billing month.

The bill will be accepted penalty free on the next business day.

Bills can be paid by cash, check or money order. No credit or debit cards are accepted.

Call the water department with your winter address, as bills cannot be forwarded.
